I’ve been at Kid Zone for 6 months and have enjoyed every minute of it! I began at GTCC where I am currently attending, with plans to transfer to UNCG for a bachelor degree in Elementary Education. In the future I plan to obtain a Masters in hopes of becoming an elementary school counselor. Children are so innocent at a young age, and their minds are so willing to learn. It’s exciting for them to gain knowledge, which makes it rewarding to know that you are the reason for that. In the sixth grade, a teacher of mine taught me an integer song that I still sing in my head when subtracting negatives and such. I would love to have a student walk up to me one day in the future and tell me that they remember something that I said! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, singing, and watching movies on Netflix.
Allison Jones
My name is Allison Jones and I'm originally from Cary, NC. I moved to Greensboro two years ago to go to school. I'm a senior in the Elementary Education program at UNCG. I love kids and teaching is my passion! Kid Zone is awesome for me because I not only get to assist with homework and work on teaching practices, but I also get to form closer relationships and have fun with the kids. I have a Chihuahua named Sammie at home who I treat as if he were my own child ;). I love Kid Zone and all of the kids who attend!
Ruth Pickett
My name is Ruth Pickett and I have been a member of the Kid Zone staff since I retired from a 30 year career as a fourth grade teacher.  Ever since joining Center United Methodist in 2011, I had longed to be a part of the Kid Zone ministry.  I grew up in Greensboro and attended UNC-G.  I currently live in Rockingham County and enjoy reading, spending time with my family, volunteering at Center, and spending time with the children at Kid Zone.  I am honored to be a part of this ministry to our members, neighbors, and community.
I have been with the program since January 2014. I have 13 years experience in Afterschool & Summer Programs, 28 years parenting experience and 6 years of grand-parenting experience.  My degree from Greensboro College is in Church Music & Organ. I have been an active participant in Christian Education for most of my life and have been an active member at Gethsemane U.M.C. for over 20 years

Kid Zone teachers focus on developmental activities including games, crafts and learning experiences throughout the year. We understand how precious family time is, so during the school year our goal is have homework assignments completed before sending a child home. At summer camp, teachers extend learning through themes each week. The summer months are not meant to lose everything learned during the school year.

Samantha Woodroof - Director

Hi! I’m Samantha Woodroof, the Director of Kid Zone at Center Church. It has been my pleasure to work with Kid Zone at Center Church for a little over a year. I am excited to help Kid Zone grow! We strive to make the center a nurturing place for children. I am originally from Tennessee, (Go Vols!) but I grew up in Greensboro. I moved back to my home town after graduating from University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (K-6) to pursue a career working with children. I love spending my free time outdoors with my dog, Winnie the Poo, bowling with the VF bowling league, and trying new restaurants in the area.   Feel free to visit Kid Zone any time. Our doors are always welcoming visitors.

Ruth Pickett - Assistant Director

My name is Ruth Pickett and I have been a member of the Kid Zone staff since retiring from teaching in 2013.  I work as the fourth and fifth grade homework/summer camp teacher.  One of the best parts of working at Kid Zone is getting to know our children and families.  I love having the opportunity to see our children grow and change as they progress through our program year after year.  I currently live in Rockingham County and enjoy reading, yoga, and volunteering at Center Church as a Sunday school teacher and leader of Center’s Young Believers children’s program.  I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the Kid Zone ministry.

Allison Carey

Hello! My name is Allison Carey and I'm a teacher at Kid Zone! I'm currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. I've been working at Kid Zone since August 2016 and have loved every minute! I work with the kindergarten and 1st grade students, but I enjoy working with and getting to know all the children at Kid Zone! Outside of Kid Zone, I'm usually studying, but in those rare times when I have nothing to do, I like to sew, watch Netflix, spend time with friends, and go out to eat or cook a meal with someone!
